The NRL is reportedly set to introduce a gag order for club officials in a bid to clean up the messy November 1 anti-tampering deadline system.

The Daily Telegraph reports the new anti-tampering rules have been backed by the players’ union as the NRL aims to stop speculation around players who are not in the final year of their deals and therefore cannot negotiate with rival clubs.

The NRL wants to stop club officials from publicly courting players before the November 1 deadline in the wake of Lachlan Galvin’s messy exit from the Tigers to join the Bulldogs in 2025.

Bulldogs boss Phil Gould was criticised for praising Galvin publicly in his role as a commentator, which potentially helped convince the playmaker to consider joining the club.

Under the new rules, club officials who publicly court players open themselves up to being reviewed by the NRL and could face sanctions.

Potential penalties for breaking the new anti-tampering rules may include fines, salary cap sanctions and deregistration.
