Liverpool go into the huge clash having returned to form with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday night. They had previously lost four Premier League matches in a row with pressure growing on the champions and Arne Slot.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are on superb form, having won their last six matches in all competitions, including a 2-1 El Clasico victory over Barcelona. They have scored 16 goals in their last six games.

Under Xabi Alonso, Real are currently top of La Liga with 10 wins and one defeat in their 11 games, and also have a 100 per cent record in the Champions League so far with three wins from three.

Liverpool sit 10th in the Champions League table, with six points from their three games.

The match has added spice with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to start for Real, having left Liverpool on a free transfer controversially in the summer.

The top eight in the Champions League qualify for the last 16 automatically, with those placed 9th to 24th going into a play-off for the knockout stages.
