A fireball erupts near airport property after reports of a plane crash at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said multiple people are injured and the fire from the plane crash near the airport was “still burning” as scores of emergency agencies respond to the scene.

“We have every emergency agency responding to the scene. There are multiple injuries and the fire is still burning. There are many road closures in the area – please avoid the scene. The plane was carrying 280,000 gallons of fuel,” Greenberg said on X.

State officials such as Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie also released statements following the crash. The governor said he was heading to Louisville and called the situation “serious.”

“First responders are onsite, and we will share more information as available. Please pray for the pilots, crew and everyone affected,” the governor said on X.

Massie urged people to “please pray for the crew, those on the ground, and first responders involved in the UPS plane crash in Louisville.”

US Senator Mitch McConnell said he and his team are “closely monitoring developments around the Louisville airport and are in touch with local, state, and federal authorities.”

“Thank you to the first responders on the scene. I encourage everyone in the area to follow emergency and law enforcement guidance,” his statement continued.
