The army bomb squad were called out to a suspected gun-making workshop in Cork city today after it was discovered by Gardaí.

The location, believed to be on the southside of the city, is currently being searched by officers. The discovery came following the seizure of a quantity of cocaine alongside three suspected firearms and ammunition from a vehicle at Lisansky in Mallow last night. After searching the vehicle, a male in his 40s was arrested and taken to a Garda Station in Co. Cork. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Cork Beo understands that a Garda probe then led officers to a domestic residence in Cork city where parts and components of firearms were located. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attended the scene, and follow-up searches are still underway. Investigations are ongoing and a Garda spokesperson has confirmed that further updates will be issued in due course.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí observed a vehicle acting suspiciously at Lisansky, Mallow, Co. Cork while on duty last night, Tuesday 4th November 2025. A search of the vehicle lead to the seizure of a quantity of cocaine along with three suspected firearms and ammunition.

“A male in his 40s was arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Co. Cork. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

“Follow up searches are being conducted at a domestic residence in Cork city today, Wednesday 5th November 2025. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attended the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this time and further developments will be reported.”
