President Donald Trump’s NASA pick Jared Isaacman has proposed to launch an uncrewed mission to Mars as early as next year, echoing the administration’s vision. Privately, he has cited Elon Musk’s SpaceX as one company that could do the job, according to a plan reviewed by Bloomberg News.

SpaceX was mentioned in a plan Isaacman and his team drafted earlier this year when the billionaire was first being considered to run the US space agency. Isaacman also outlined how companies including Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, Rocket Lab, Axiom Space Inc. and others could work with NASA to achieve various goals.
