Chris Sutton has reacted to Celtic’s ‘sobering’ defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League with a warning to Martin O’Neill.

The Celtic hero was clearly unhappy with the Hoops’ poor Europa League performance as the Danish team outplayed O’Neill’s side for much of the 90 minutes.

The Bhoys suffered a shocking eight-minute spell where Celtic shipped three goals to allow Midtjylland to retain their Europa League top spot with ease.

And reacting to how Celtic meekly lost in Denmark, Chris Sutton has sent a message to the Parkhead club and his old gaffer over the defeat to the Danes.

Sutton is always vocal about issues regarding Celtic and after watching the Midtjylland defeat, the former Hoops striker sent his old club a warning.

Sutton said on X, “Sobering night for Celtic… no great surprise. Midtjylland better in every department.

“Great to see MON return and the wins against Falkirk and Rangers but I’d hate to see MON stay on too long and damage his legacy.

“This isn’t on him at all. New manager needed in place asap.”

Martin O’Neill says Celtic’s journey in the Europa League is ‘not over’

O’Neill was upbeat despite Celtic’s latest Europa League defeat as the interim Hoops boss declared the Bhoys were not out of the competition just yet.

The Celtic manager said, “I suppose that we probably always thought this year that ten points would probably be enough [to qualify].

“We’re not out of it. That’s a big lesson for us tonight to know what it takes to be a really decent European team.

“Midtjylland have shown that and they have good experience in the side, they have really good players and they have that thing that is really necessary, physicality.”
