Police in Auckland evacuated a street in Takapuna on Thursday after discovering what appeared to be a small bomb among a raft of weapons and drug paraphernalia.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams, Waitematā CIB, says officers went to Karaka Street to make an arrest, as part of an investigation into threatening behaviour.
He says they found “what appeared to be a small IED” and evacuated nearby residents as a precaution.
They also found an antique pistol, BB gun, Class B controlled drug ketamine, scales, drug paraphernalia, a hunting knife, three other knives and a set of knuckle dusters.
A 20-year-old man faces multiple charges and is due to appear in North Shore District Court on Friday.
Police have opposed the man’s bail.
