Reigning champion Shane McGuirk will kick off his title defence against Finland’s Petri Rasmus in the final game of the opening session of the 2025 WDF World Championship at Lakeside.
That’s one of six Open first round games to take place on Friday, November 28th, with 2023 semi-finalist Dennis Nilsson opening the show when he takes on Canada’s Shane Sakchekapo.
Sakchekapo will be one of seven male debutants to take to the stage on the tournament’s opening night, with Alex Williams, Romeo Grbavac, Clint Clarkson, Haruki Muramatsu, Vince Tipple and the aforementioned Rasmus also in action.
This year’s tournaments will see a total of 85 players grace the iconic Lakeside Country Club across 15 sessions and 10 days of darting drama to help us crown the latest WDF World Champions across the Girls’, Youth, Women’s and Open competitions.
Mayumi Ouchi and Nina Lech-Musialska get the action underway in the Women’s tournament on Friday night, with Ouchi’s compatriot and two-time World Champion Mikuru Suzuki making her Lakeside return on Saturday evening against Finland’s Kirsi Viinikainen.
James Beeton will be the first seed to compete in the Open tournament on Saturday afternoon, facing the winner of the opening game between Nilsson and Sakchekapo.
Top seed Jimmy van Schie will be in action on Saturday evening, facing Williams or Grbavac, with former WDF No.1 Brian Raman competing just before against Dutch Open winner Jeffrey Sparidaans.
Sunday begins with Marko Kantele returning to the Lakeside for the first time in 20 years against Dalibor Smolik, and the evening will see Mitchell Lawrie become the youngest-player to compete in a senior World Championship when he faces Japan’s Tomoya Maruyama.
Monday night will see women’s top seed Lerena Rietbergen in action as well as four seeds in the Open tournament, including 2022 World Champion Neil Duff and returning Australian Raymond Smith.
On Tuesday night, the new Women’s World Master Lorraine Hyde will take on Paula Murphy or Emine Dursun, with the Last 16 in the Women’s competition wrapping up across Wednesday and Thursday with Deta Hedman, Sophie McKinlay, Aileen de Graaf and Rhian O’Sullivan in action.
On Thursday, the Youth tournament gets underway with Mitchell Lawrie leading off against Adam Sepsi.
All the Quarter-Finals in the Open and Women’s tournaments will take place on Friday, December 5th, alongside the last two Youth last eight ties that will include defending champion Archie Self.
Saturday, December 6th is Semi-Final Saturday across all four tournaments, with Paige Pauling looking to start her title defence against Turkish debutant Zehra Gemi, ahead of our big Finals Day on Sunday when we’ll crown our four 2025 World Champions live on S4C.
