November 10,2025 (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in partnership with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), is proud to announce the hosting of the 3rd Edition of the IGAD Media Awards, taking place from 28–29 November 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Held under the theme “Storytelling for Climate Action: For a Secure, Resilient, and Stable Region,” the 2025 IGAD Media Awards will honour journalists and media professionals whose work captures the realities, resilience, and solutions shaping communities across the Horn of Africa in the face of climate change.

The event will feature the IGAD Media Awards Ceremony and the Voices for Climate Action Knowledge Share Fair, bringing together regional policymakers, journalists, partners, and innovators to celebrate storytelling as a catalyst for transformation and resilience.

This year’s edition is made possible through the support of key Pan-African partners, including Pulse of Africa, a leading media house advancing authentic African narratives, and Exim Bank, a Pan-African financial institution championing regional and continental development.

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, a State Minister from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted Ethiopia’s enduring commitment to climate action, environmental stewardship, and media empowerment:

“Ethiopia is honoured to host this year’s IGAD Media Awards, a platform that aligns with our vision for a greener, more resilient Africa. Through initiatives like the Green Legacy, we continue to demonstrate that environmental sustainability and development go hand in hand. By supporting journalists and storytellers, we empower voices that drive awareness, inspire action, and unite our region in the fight against climate change.”

Delivering remarks on behalf of the IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Mr. Abebaw Bihonegn, Head of the IGAD Mission to Ethiopia, emphasised IGAD’s unwavering commitment to partnership and regional cooperation:

“The IGAD Media Awards embody our collective belief that storytelling is a force for change. Partnering with the Government of Ethiopia and our private-sector allies reflects our shared vision for a peaceful, resilient, and sustainable Horn of Africa where knowledge, innovation, and dialogue drive progress.”

Preparations are at an advanced stage, with a Jury of 21 distinguished media professionals from IGAD Member States already constituted to lead the selection process.
