On 12 November, the European Commission will launch a call for interest for the first round of the Hydrogen Mechanism. Suppliers will be invited to submit supply offers between 12 November and 2 January 2026. The Mechanism covers hydrogen and its derivatives: ammonia, methanol, and electro-sustainable aviation fuels and eMethane, both renewable and low carbon. It aims at supporting the industry in competitive decarbonisation and accelerating the hydrogen market creation by linking buyers and sellers, informing infrastructure development and facilitating access to financing.
This workshop will focus on explaining the first call for interest of the mechanism and will be chaired by Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of Energy Security and International Relations, at the Commission Directorate-General for Energy. It is open to industry, financial institutions, academia, and interested stakeholders.
After the workshop, DG Energy organises a technical session providing an in-depth demonstration of Hydrogen Mechanism for the call for interest.
To join, please register via EUSurvey by 18 November 12:00.

Background
The Regulation on the internal markets for renewable gas, natural gas and hydrogen (EU/2024/1789) mandates the Commission to set up and operate the mechanism under the European Hydrogen Bank until the end of 2029.
The Hydrogen Mechanism is part of the the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform, and was launched on 2 July 2025. It is designed to empower stakeholders by matching and aggregating demand and supply, informing infrastructure development and linking with the financial solutions. In practice, the mechanism will
collect market information on demand and supply for voluntary market participants, and on financial solutions tailored for hydrogen from public and private institutionsorganise calls for interest for the collected demand and supply volume and provide matchmaking services.
