The car’s driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested
A man has been arrested as part of a Garda crackdown targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Limerick.
The operation in Rathkeale took place on Friday 7th November in the late evening, during which a driver – a man in his 20s – was stopped by investigating officers. Before Gardaí could take a closer look at his vehicle, he sped off and was involved in a collision with a bollard in a residential area.
The vehicle became stuck and its side door was badly dented – the driver was quickly apprehended. He was arrested and is due to appear before the court on Friday morning, 14th November. Gardaí also seized cocaine with an estimated street value of €3,500.

Following this incident, further searches were carried out at a domestic residence in Rathkeale the following day, leading to the seizure of suspected cocaine to the estimated street value of €56,000, a shotgun cartridge and a number of other items.
In total, suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €59,500 was seized during the operation. The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
Garda investigations are ongoing.
