Cameron Green fell in bizarre fashion for 17 as the Sheffield Shield clash between Western Australia and Queensland ended with a thrilling one-wicket victory to the hosts

on the final day at the WACA Ground in Perth.

After tearing through Queensland with the ball on the third evening with four wickets in ten balls, Corey Rocchiccioli was once again the hero, but this time with the bat in the nail-biting finish.

Skipper Sam Whiteman top scored for WA with 81 at the top of the order, no other batter made more than 36 as the match hung in the balance for the entire last day.

Queensland looked the likely victors when they nabbed 4/32 after skipper Marnus Labuschagne got the key breakthrough of Aaron Hardie (12) when the hosts needed 55 to win with five wickets in hand and Hardie joined at the crease by Ashes squad member Josh Inglis (28).

The fightback was not to be, however, as Rocchiccioli and Gannon saw WA home.

In the end, it was a shrewd piece of captaincy by Labuschagne, and it helped wrestle back some momentum the visitors’ way.

Western Australia were 3/155 when Green departed, and he is likely to have done enough in this contest to show selectors he will be ready to go for the first Ashes Test, starting one week from today.
