The first time Cody heard about Australia’s teen social media ban was from a client earlier this year.

“I was quite shocked because I thought that news would come from like a government agency,” she said.

Now, the youth worker — who works predominantly with queer and neurodiverse people — hears her clients mention the ban almost every day.

“Lots of neurodivergent young people are disengaged from traditional school — either homeschooled or working with me to get back to school — and predominantly go online to get their social engagement.
