It is believed that the man walked south on Great King St, between Saint David St and Union St West, around 11am on the day of the incident.
Police confirmed this afternoon they had spoken to the man.

A 25-year-old man appeared in the Dunedin District Court on October 6 before Judge Hermann Retzlaff, facing one charge of murder.
Judge Retzlaff directed that a report be prepared to explore the man’s fitness and insanity under request from counsel Anne Stevens, KC, who also sought name suppression.
A mental health report will be prepared.
He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear on December 16.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
An earlier statement from police said, “The pair are believed to have been known to each other.”
