Antoine Semenyo is quickly becoming one of the best players in the Premier League, and Manchester United are among the clubs expected to line up for his signature.

Having scored six goals this season in the Premier League, Antoine Semenyo is arguably the most sought-after Premier League player for 2026.

Manchester United are unsurprisingly very interested in adding Semenyo to an already impressive frontline, likely as a wing-back to equal the threat Amad poses on the other side.

Semenyo will be available for his £65m release clause in January, which could prove to be a deal that Premier League clubs are fighting over.

But what is United’s stance on paying it in January?

Semenyo’s release clause drops lower in the summer, but with a World Cup to appear in for Ghana, he could attract suitors across Europe.

Should Man Utd pay Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause in January?

So United might have to move sooner rather than later. Now, United in Focus understands via Graeme Bailey that a deal in January is considered.

“Manchester United have been chasing Antoine Semenyo since the summer; they have maintained that interest since. I am told they were fully aware of the clause when he signed his new deal, after known about its validity for January and beyond.

“United like Semenyo, and whilst unlikely, he is an option that would be considered for January. Whilst Semenyo does have a clause, £65m in one hit is a big ask for any club.”

£65m in one lump sum is a big ask; however, United have acted shrewdly in the past with release clauses, arranging instalments, and even overpaying for Semenyo, but splitting the cost is excellent value.

Manchester United should spend big on Semenyo

Some might view the decision to spend a big amount on Semenyo as foolish, considering he is not going to fix the biggest issue at the club, which is in midfield.

However, United won’t be able to sign a top target for that position in January, and so if the funds are there, Semenyo is an excellent use.

Semenyo is incredibly versatile and could solve the left-wing-back issue for Amorim, while also offering support in the number 10 role and even up front if needed.

United can have the best front five in the league by adding Semenyo, and it should absolutely be something the club looks to do if possible.
