Sydney Sweeney‘s latest offering, Christy, suffers another wave of disappointing box office numbers in its second week in theaters. The biographical sports drama premiered earlier this month and has yet to break even at the box office.

Sydney Sweeney’s new movie tanks at box office

Christy debuted on November 7, 2025, to mixed critical reviews, earning just $1.3 million in its opening weekend. The numbers continued to drop, with the movie earning a 3-day total of just $108,487 in the second week.

According to Box Office Mojo, the drop is 91.7% from the previous week, marking the biggest sophomore week drop of all time. This record was previously held by Nicholas Hoult’s 2016 action flick, Collide, with an 88.5% Week 2 drop, as per reports.

Additionally, there has been a significant plummet in Christy’s per-screen average, which reportedly went from $600 in the debut week to just $132. It shows that fewer people are buying tickets to go see the movie in theaters this week. Needless to say, this data is a glaring factor that contributed to the devastating box office numbers.

Several reports have also speculated that the recent controversies surrounding Sweeney could have affected the box office results. Earlier this year, the Euphoria star faced backlash for her American Eagle ad campaign. The now-viral video featured the phrase “great jeans,” which many accused of being an offensive and racist pun on “genes”.

Despite the disappointing box office results, many critics have lauded Sweeney’s performance in the movie, where she played the former professional boxer Christy Martin. The actress recently penned a heartfelt message on her Instagram, declaring that she is “deeply proud of this movie.”

Meanwhile, Sweeney is all set to lead the upcoming psychological thriller film, The Housemaid, alongside Amanda Seyfried. The highly anticipated movie is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 bestselling novel of the same name.
