November to April is cyclone season across the southern parts of the Pacific, but what if AI could help Pacific Islanders better prepare for extreme events like storms and floods?

Well, Solomon Islands is trialling a system called EDiSON which will come online in a couple of months. This system is part of a UNESCO program and was built by software company SAP and Oita University in Japan.

“What EDiSON does is bringing together real time meteorological and historical data,” said SAP communications office Sophia Mendelsohn.

“It means we can be more precise about our disaster warnings,” she added.
