In the latest episode of Eurostat’s Stats in a Wrap podcast, we will take a look at the statistics that help us understand how Europe measures youth labour market participation, what the data tell us and what challenges statisticians face when working on these data.

In this episode, host Jonathan Elliot is joined by Eurostat’s Riccardo Gatto, a statistical officer in the labour force survey methodology team and Francis van der Mooren, a researcher at Statistics Netherlands, who specialises in young people and their transition from education to the labour market.

Our guests look back at their first jobs and discuss how the transition from education to employment is a crucial yet often misunderstood phase in young people’s lives. Besides the pressure and expectations about finding the ideal job, young people face challenges that go beyond themselves. Today, the labour market changes faster than the educational system and society, requiring new relational, technical and digitalisation skills, within an increasingly precarious environment.
