A man has died after being shot several times on a quiet residential street in Sydney’s west, with two people taken into custody after a police pursuit.

The incident unfolded around midday on Carinya Street in Blacktown, where the victim was treated by specialist paramedics at the scene.

He was found with gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and leg.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.

NSW Police allege two people fled after the shooting, sparking a brief pursuit before they were arrested a short time later.

They attempted to stop a Mazda ute that was allegedly seen leaving the scene. “When the vehicle did not stop, a pursuit was initiated,” a spokesperson said.

“The pursuit was terminated a short time later when the vehicle crashed on Kildare Road.”

Shortly after the incident NSW police posted to social media warning residents to “avoid the area”.

“A police operation is currently underway in Blacktown following a public place shooting.”

“There is a large emergency services presence in the area, with police establishing a perimeter.

“There is no threat to the public however, the community is urged to avoid the area.”

The attack comes amid a string of recent daylight shootings across Sydney.
