Greece achieved a record 153 votes in the election for Category A of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, ranking fourth globally out of 169 participating countries.

The result, just two votes behind the top three, with China and Italy at 155 votes and South Korea at 154, highlights Greece’s central role in global shipping.

Greece tied with the United Kingdom, followed by Japan, Panama, the US, Norway and Liberia.

Category A represents the ten countries with the largest influence in providing international maritime services, encompassing traditional “shipping powers” with substantial fleets and advanced industry expertise, reinforcing Greece’s longstanding maritime prominence.
