U.S. senator Cory Booker is now a husband. He married Alexis Lewis, a real-estate executive at an L.A.-based firm, in two separate ceremonies this past week: one on Monday at a courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, and another on Saturday at an undisclosed location in Washington, D.C.

The Bookers announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post, where they wrote they were “overflowing with gratitude.” According to the New York Times, they celebrated after the courthouse with Italian pastries for Lewis and a vegan chocolate-chip cookie-dough cake for Booker. (The Times noted that Lewis is not vegan like her new husband.) Their interfaith ceremony in D.C. was attended by family only and hopefully had more food options.

Booker popped the question during a trip to Hawaii in August and announced their engagement on Instagram in October. “Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love,” he captioned the post.

While three months feels like quite a quick turnaround, apparently that’s exactly what the couple was planning for. “We’re going to do it before the end of the year quick. We don’t want to wait long,” Booker said last month in an appearance on the I’ve Had It podcast. “We both want to get married quick, and we’re both hoping to have kids at some point sometime soon. You know, there’s a lot to do, and time is of the essence.” Spoken like a true politician.

He also told hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan that “being single is not fun,” especially as a senator, and he was “very psyched” to be getting married. I’m glad it all worked out for him.
