Wilfried Nancy
Incoming Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy will bring three members of his Columbus Crew backroom staff with him to Glasgow. The Scottish champions confirmed that the boss will step into the hot seat following the clash with Dundee.
Record Sport exclusively revealed that the Columbus Crew head coach had kicked off talks with the Hoops last month and they have now got their man. Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney have been holding down the fort at Celtic Park amid the ongoing bid to land a boss but will step aside at full-time on Wednesday night.
The Major League Soccer side have now revealed that they have also greenlit the departure of three members of staff. His Columbus assistant coach Kwame Ampadu, assistant coach and fitness coach Jules Gueguen and video performance coach Maxime Chalier will all join Nancy as part of the compensation package agreed between the clubs.
Record Sport previously revealed Nancy planned to bring the trio with him when he made the move to the Scottish Premiership. General Manager Issa Tall stated on the move: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Wilfried for three years as we were able to achieve many great things together during his time at the Club.
“Although we wish it was in future years, we recognise Wilfried’s desire to test his skillset and philosophies outside of our league. We wish him the best at Celtic, and he’ll always be a significant part of our Club’s great history.”
The ownership group behind the club stated they declined to stand in Nancy’s way as he pushed for a move to Europe. A statement read: “Wilfried helped our Club accomplish so much over the past three seasons, and we’ll forever be grateful for his passion and efforts to advance the Crew and Major League Soccer.
“He led us to our third MLS Cup, first Leagues Cup championship and a Concacaf Champions Cup Final, and most importantly, his leadership further established a culture and commitment to success that will continue to positively impact our Club for years to come. While we strived to keep Wilfried in Columbus, he was clear that coaching Celtic is an important next step in his professional and personal journey, which we know firsthand will be ‘limitless.’’
