Another highly-anticipated flashpoint of the Mo Salah saga transpired on Monday night, as Jamie Carragher went on an expected tirade against the ostracised Liverpool star.

Last season’s Premier League Player of the Season has been out-of-sorts in an out-of-sorts Liverpool team this year, and has been benched by Arne Slot for the last three games.

Liverpool had won just two of their previous seven games before Salah was benched for the late November clash with West Ham. Salah has started each of the three games against the Hammers, Sunderland, and Leeds on the bench, and played just 45 minutes across those games, which saw Liverpool pick up only five points.

After Saturday’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds, Salah went nuclear, saying he felt “thrown under the bus” by the club, that his relationship with Slot was completely broken, and strongly hinting he would seek a move away in January.

Amid a calamitous run of form for Liverpool, Salah’s outburst was only more fuel for the fire, and he would surely have been ready for backlash.

Indeed, he called out Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who has been outspoken on Salah in the past. Salah said, “Tomorrow Carragher is going to go for me again and again and that’s fine.”

Salah was correct. On Sky’s Monday Night Football coverage of Wolves v Manchester United, Carragher went in two-footed with one of the most extraordinary rants in recent football TV history.

Amid the eight-minute rant, Carragher called Salah’s outburst a “disgrace,” and said the forward had been known as a “failure” until his arrival at Liverpool, referencing his time at Chelsea and lack of silverware with Egypt.

It was a rant that left football fans on social media stunned, but one man’s reaction was hidden.

Alongside Carragher in the MNF studio was injured Spurs star James Maddison. However, throughout Carragher’s tirade, the cameras only showed the Liverpool legend or Sky host David Jones.

Maddison has now shared his reaction to the rant in a brilliant social media post.

James Maddison had hilarious take on Carragher’s Salah rant

Sitting in studio as your punditry counterpart tears down a fellow Premier League footballer must have been a strange experience for Spurs star James Maddison.

Though his reaction to Jamie Carragher tearing down Mo Salah was not shown on TV, he would share a hilarious selfie to social media once the show had wrapped.

Maddison shared a wide-eyed selfie clearly taken discreetly under the table as Jamie Carragher went in on a fellow Liverpool legend. The caption of Maddison’s post read, ‘Watching that Jamie Carragher rant live’ with a melting face and laughing face emoji.

It summed up the bizarre concept of having a currently active Premier League player in studio for such a moment.

Mo Salah has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League game in the San Siro against Inter, with Arne Slot admitting he is not sure if the Egyptian will ever play for the club again.

On Tuesday morning, Salah posted a photo of him alone in the gym at Liverpool’s training ground to his social media platforms without any caption.

A strained situation does not show signs of getting any less fractitious in the days to come.

Liverpool face Brighton on Saturday, in a game that Mo Salah has strongly hinted could be his last at Anfield, given he will depart for AFCON shortly thereafter.

Whether he will be involved at all may depend on his ability to make some form of amends with Arne Slot, something which does not appear to be forthcoming.
