A 48-year-old man from Toronto is facing several charges after allegedly puncturing the tires of vehicles, which almost resulted in a collision when one of them was driven.
Toronto police say on Dec. 4, at about 8 p.m., officers were in the area of Jane and Wilson streets when they saw the accused puncturing a vehicle’s tire using a sharp instrument.
They say officers located another vehicle nearby with a punctured tire and arrested a suspect.
Investigators say they also received a report from a complainant in the same area, saying that they had been unknowingly driving with a punctured tire.
Police say that vehicle entered a busy highway, began to lose control, and nearly crashed as a result.
“Driving with a punctured tire can cause sudden loss of control, particularly at higher speeds. Police are asking motorists in the area to check their vehicles and report any damage,” Toronto Police Service said in a news release.
Abdifatah Adde, 45, of Toronto, has been charged with one count each of fail to comply with probation order and fail to comply with release order, and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
He was scheduled to appear in bail court on Dec. 5.
This mischief investigation is ongoing.
Toronto police believe there may be additional damaged vehicles and are asking anyone with information or anyone who has noticed similar damage to their vehicle to contact them at 416-808-3100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
