The moment a group of teenagers chased a boy at a busy Sydney shopping centre during a frightening altercation has been captured on video. Christmas shoppers were caught up in the terrifying ordeal, subjected to aggressive shouting as chairs were wildly thrown.

A woman also targeted by the group appeared to be hit by one of the chairs as she entered the escalator.

Footage taken by a bystander on Wednesday at around 5.50pm at Broadway Shopping Centre in Sudney’s inner city showed a large group of teens swearing and making offensive gestures towards the boy, who fled down an escalator.

A witness said the boy had first thrown a chair at the group after an argument.

The woman who had a chair thrown at her on the escalator was reported by witnesses to be the girlfriend of the boy the group were chasing.

NSW Police confirmed to Yahoo News officers were called to the shopping centre following reports of a “brawl” and were told “a group of teenagers had confronted another boy in the food court area before an argument began”.

“The group then began to throw chairs at the boy; some chairs falling to a lower level of the shopping centre,” a spokesperson for NSW Police told Yahoo.

No injuries were reported, and the group of teens and the boy left the shopping centre prior to police arriving.

Police immediately commenced an investigation into the incident and are appealing for anyone with information or vision of the incident to come forward
