What they’re saying:
According to Community ISD, the suspect has been identified as a student of Community Trails Middle School and officials say he has not been on campus since Nov. 11.
“Until the suspect is apprehended, our campuses in the City of Lavon – Community Trails Middle School, Dodson Elementary School, and NeSmith Elementary School – will be closed to any visitors. These facilities will also have an increased security presence, in addition to our pre-existing armed CISD Police Officer at each building. Once the suspect has been apprehended, we will issue an update and open the buildings to visitors once again,” said school officials in a statement.
“While the District does not believe this student poses a threat to any campus, we take the safety and security of our students and staff seriously. Though the District cannot publicly identify the suspect as that would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), their identity has been shared with staff at CTMS, along with our CISD Police Department, and our safety partners in the Lavon Police Department and the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.”
All campuses will have guidance counselors available for students or staff who need assistance.Â
