Dubai’s skies have been illuminated by lightning and its streets flooded by heavy rain for the second consecutive day, causing widespread flight cancellations and delays at the emirate’s bustling airports. The treacherous weather conditions have forced Emirates Airline, the city’s flagship carrier, to suspend 13 of its flights scheduled to depart from Dubai International Airport on Thursday evening.

The travel disruptions have not been limited to Emirates, as several other early morning flights operated by both local and international carriers have also been grounded or face significant delays, according to Dubai Airport’s website. The adverse weather has left countless passengers stranded and scrambling to make alternative arrangements.

In a statement on its website, Emirates acknowledged the impact of the inclement weather, stating, “Adverse weather in the UAE and surrounding region on 18 and 19 December has impacted Emirates operations, with some flights being cancelled, delayed and retimed.”
