A 56-year-old man has appeared in court tonight charged in relation to the death of Emma Mackeral.
Ion Buccurica appeared at Monaghan District Court charged with dangerous driving causing the death of the Co Monaghan mother of two.
The Romanian national who resides in France appeared in front of Judge Gerard Jones at a special sitting of Monaghan District Court over the alleged offence.
Inspector Damien Martin gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at the brief hearing tonight.
No application for bail was submitted by his solicitor Roisin Courtney, her client was granted free legal aid due to the significance of the charge that he faces.
He was also granted a Romanian interpreter.
Mr Buccurica who is lorry driver was remanded to Cloverhill prison to appear at Monaghan District Court on Monday the 22nd of December.
The case is in relation to Gardaà and emergency services attending a collision involving a HGV and a car on the N2 at Mullaghnee, Annalitten, Castleblayney that occurred at approximately 8:00am yesterday morning.
The driver of the car, a female in her 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No other injuries reported at this time.
It’s alleged that Mr Buccurica drove a vehicle in a manner that was dangerous causing the death of the Co Monaghan woman and he was arrested at the scene and was charged earlier this evening.
The road is currently closed to allow for the removal of the vehicle and is expected to re-open later tonight.
Gardaà are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the N2 between Castleblayney and Broomfield between 7:30am and 8:15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaÃ.
