ITV Royal Variety Performance viewers issued the same complaint over BGT’s Harry Moulding performance at the annual event.

On presenting duties this year was none other than Jason Manford. Having presented during the pandemic in 2020, the Manchester comic finally got the chance to perform in front of a crowd at The Royal Albert Hall.

Representing the Royal Family this year was their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales, who are attending the event for the sixth time. William and Kate have previously attended the showcase of talent in 2014, 2017, 2019, 2021 and most recently in 2023.

While it was filmed last month, viewers finally got to see the action unfold on ITV on Sunday night (December 21). Jason kicked off the evening with a monologue about how his dad is more impressed by his plumber brother than him.

From here, Jason introduced performances from Paddington The Musical, Adrian Stoica and his dog Hurricane, the cast of Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical and Jessie J, just months after she confirmed she had cancer.

However, one of the most anticipated moments of the night arrived from magician Harry Moulding, who earned a spot at the Royal Variety Performance and took home the grand £250,000 prize at the Britain’s Got Talent final earlier in the year.

The magician from Blackpool made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in May after he was fast-tracked to the final when guest judge KSI pressed the golden buzzer during the semi-finals.

Harry, who started practicing magic tricks aged 10, won the majority of votes over his 10 fellow semi-finalists, including gymnast Binita who came in at third place, and The Blackouts who were runners up.

Once again showcasing his skills, Harry’s latest trick saw him trying to read the minds of random members of the audience. Harry began his act by telling Prince William that his dad King Charles was a member of the Inner Magic Circle.

After assuring everyone that the act was 100% authentic and not pre-determined, Harry introduced a video of him in Buckingham Palace. While at the home of the Royal Family several weeks ago, Harry revealed that he knew what everyone in the audience was going to say before he met them.

While he received a huge round of applause from the audience, those watching the performance at home took to X, previously known as Twitter, to explain why they weren’t impressed with the performance.

@Abby92B said: “I love magic tricks as much as the next person but when its drawn out for 20mins it takes the fun out of it! That could of all been done in 5mins! #RoyalVarietyPerformance.” @cannylad23 added: “How did he win bgt . Surely need something spectacular for this #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”

@I_am_KenBarlow wrote: “#RoyalVarietyPerformance What did he do other than read a script which any of us could do. He’s no magician. Cowell has a lot to answer for with his ridiculous scripts.” @Ashleypp1986 stated: “When a magician starts his act by saying ‘none of this is staged’ means that it totally is! #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”

@teebeanee commented: “Sorry but that magic was nothing special? No one else raised their hands for that balloons so it’s all pre-decided. And then pre-filmed in the palace. Sorry, bud. What a let down for him. #RoyalVarietyPerformance.” @StillNotWitty posted: “God I find magic acts so boring #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”
