It’s famous and at times can be infamous and this year the Sydney to Hobart yacht race celebrates its 80th anniversary with one of the biggest fleets in recent times, around 130 boats and close to 2000 sailors.

The nature of the weather in the lead up to the 2025 event has made forecasting particularly difficult but one thing for sure is this will not be a record breaker and there will be plenty of sailors wishing they were back home in front of the TV on a horrid first night.

Crew are expected to race south in a mix of conditions including tough and rough upwind sailing, frustrating light breeze and hopefully at some stage a magic carpet ride downwind in the later part of the race.

Countdown is on for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
