Sam Morsy has signed a six-month deal with Bristol City, with the midfielder signing on until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old captained Ipswich to back-to-back promotions, including the Tractor Boys’ promotion to the Premier League in 2024 where he also made 33 appearances in the top flight last season.
Starting his professional career with Port Vale in 2009, he was part of the League Two promotion-winning side of 2013 before leaving for Chesterfield the following summer.
After two-and-a-half years with the Spireites, Morsy joined Wigan Athletic in January 2016 and he featured 16 times as the Latics secured promotion to the Sky Bet Championship as Champions.
Making 164 Wigan appearances across four-and-a-half seasons and earning two promotions, Morsy was named the club’s Player of the Year in 2019/20 before departing for Middlesbrough.
Making the switch to Ipswich Town a year later, Morsy departed Portman Road after 165 appearances and joined Kuwait SC in July 2025.
On signing for City, he said: “I am delighted to be here. As soon as I heard of the interest, I could see it was a really good fit for me.
“Gerhard [Struber] has an infectious personality and is a real winner and I know the style of football he wants to play.
“I am going to give it everything I have got, and I am fully committed to this cause. I am joining an amazing football club and an amazing group.”
Technical Director Brian Tinnion added: “We know what an experienced player Sam is and to have his quality on the pitch and his leadership in the dressing room is really exciting for us.
“We are so pleased to have him here until the end of the season.”
After training with Gerhard Struber’s side over recent weeks, Morsy will be available for selection against Preston North End.
