It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Cecil Clayton Herridge on January 2nd, 2026 at Northside General Hospital surrounded by his family.
Â
Dad was born September 12th, 1936 in Piccarie, Newfoundland. At age 8 he moved with his family to North Sydney where they settled on the Gannon Rd.Â
Â
In his younger years he fished lobster on his father’s boat and in 1956 he met his wife Josephine and settled in to working the coal mines alongside Mom’s father and brothers.
Dad was Past President & lifetime member of Royal Canadian Legion Breton Br 008, Sydney Mines. He spent countless hours as a volunteer and never missed a Poppy campaign until his illness. He took great pride in attending District Command meetings across the Island with his ” legion buddies”.
Â
Upon retirement Dad enjoyed his daily drives to visit his brother George where they often discussed what model fishing boat they were building at the time. Whether it was Newfoundland dory’s, lobster boats or schooners, every thing was made by hand in his workshop.
