A grass fire that ignited Monday afternoon between Broomfield, Lafayette and Louisville is largely contained. Boulder County expects to lift evacuation orders soon.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, crews have mostly contained the grass fire, and are working on putting out its remnants. A large pile of hay bales continues to smolder.

Local officials responded to the scene off of Northwest Parkway, near Highway 287 and Dillon Road. The brush fire was spreading east, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and smoke was widely visible.

Highway 287 is also expected to reopen soon, according to the sheriff’s office.

This is a developing story.
