The audience of The View were shocked after one of the hosts defended President Donald Trump’s removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, going against the rest of her liberal costars.
The talk show opened its Monday January 5 episode with a conversation about the capture of Maduro two days earlier. Cohost Sunny Hostin argued that Trump and his administration “violated international law.”
But cohost Ana Navarro, who was born in Nicaragua, then surprised her fellow panelists by saying said she supported Maduro’s arrest.

Navarro is a Republican but a vocal critic of President Trump.
“The people of South Florida, the Venezuelan community, the Cuban American community, the Nicaraguan American community voted for this,” the lawyer — who clarified that she believes the president “doesn’t give a damn” about the Venezuelan people or the drug trade — explained.
“And for us, this is a very, very happy day when we see a dictator who has been part of oppressing and abusing the Venezuelan people for 25 years. When we see him in handcuffs and held to some sort of accountability, it brought me to tears. It brought me great joy,” she added.

Cohost Sunny Hostin interrupted, asking “Are you OK with the way it was done?”
“I think both things could be true,” Navarro responded. “I think you can criticize and ask questions and have concerns about the way it was done and what this means in the future and I think you can still celebrate that this murderous, corrupt, sadistic son of a bitch is out of Venezuela.”
The audience erupted in applause in response to Navarro’s comments.

Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed that she was also “celebrating” but had concerns about “the lack of Congressional authority” and the administration’s plans for moving forward.
Responding to the comments made on The View, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told Entertainment Weekly in a statement: “Over 60 countries around the world held that Nicolás Maduro was an illegitimate ruler… the Biden administration had a reward for information leading to his arrest.”
