LINCOLN PARK — A surgeon who lives in Lincoln Park has been arrested in connection to the killing of his ex-wife and her husband in their Columbus, Ohio, home, according to authorities.
Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested in Rockford Saturday on an arrest warrant out of Columbus, where he was wanted in the shooting death of Spencer and Monique Tepe, according to the Columbus Police Department.
McKee works as a vascular surgeon in a Rockford-area hospital, according to reports. His arrest ends speculation in the killing of Spencer and Monique Tepe that made national headlines.
The Tepes were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Columbus home on Dec. 30, after colleagues of Spencer, a dentist, called police to request a wellness check after he failed to show up to work, according to Columbus police. Their two small children were also found in the home and were unharmed.
Local authorities asked for the public’s help in finding the killer, with police releasing security footage stills that purported to show a suspect in the case. The suspect was tracked to a car near the scene of the killing that was linked to McKee, and the car was eventually located in Rockford, where McKee was arrested Saturday morning, according to a criminal complaint filed in Franklin County, Ohio.
McKee has been booked into a Rockford-area jail and has a court hearing Monday to begin his extradition to Ohio, records show. He faces two counts of murder.

Court records show McKee lives at 2100 N. Lincoln Park West, a luxury mid-rise building across the street from the neighborhood’s namesake park. One neighbor of the building told ABC 7 said they had multiple interactions with McKee and were shocked to learn of the charges.
“He did not seem like somebody that would do something like this,” Gera-Lind Kolarik told Channel 7. “You never know. You meet people everywhere, and you don’t know if they’re a serial killer.”
McKee and Monique Tepe, 39, were married from 2015-2017, according to the Sun-Times. He is listed as a vascular surgeon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, the paper reported. A spokesperson for the hospital system told the Sun-Times it is cooperating with authorities.
The Tepe family said McKee’s arrest is a “important” step in securing justice for Spencer, 37, and Monique, who were about to celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary before their shooting deaths.
“Monique and Spencer remain at the center of our hearts, and we carry forward their love as we surround and protect the two children they leave behind. We will continue to honor their lives and the light they brought into this world,” the family said in a statement.
