Police say charges have been approved for a Hudson’s Hope, B.C., teacher accused of sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

According to a Jan. 8 media release from the Hudson’s Hope RCMP, the alleged offender is not being named to protect the identity of the victims. The charges follow an investigation launched in October 2025.

The B.C. Prosecution Service confirmed the charges and noted there is a publication ban in place.

“In our view, this is one of those rare cases where identifying the accused would tend to identify the complainant,” reads an email from the service.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between Feb. 11, 2021 and Oct. 31, 2023, near Hudson’s Hope, as well as Grande Prairie, Alta., and Calgary, Alta.

School District 60 Superintendent Stephen Petrucci said the district was informed of the charges and the individual is not teaching at Hudson’s Hope School or at any other schools within the district while court proceedings are ongoing.

“This matter is taken extremely seriously by the School District, as nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our students. Criminal misconduct towards minors can never be condoned,” wrote Petrucci by email.

He added that the district is limited in what it can legally share while the matter is before the courts, but it will keep parents and caregivers informed of any developments impacting their schools and students.
