There was an injury sustained at half-time during Celtic’s win over Falkirk but it wasn’t for any of the players.

Match referee John Beaton was replaced at half time as Celtic led Falkirk 1-0 in a game that was a real hard slog for Martin O’Neill’s men.

As both teams emerged from the tunnel at the Falkirk Stadium, Celtic fans will have noticed that Beaton had been replaced by stand-in referee Sean Murdoch, who had a very good game by all accounts.

So what happened to the experienced SFA man? It appears that Beaton suffered an injury and it is one that has plagued Celtic’s season so far.

SFA whistler Beaton suffered a hamstring injury during Celtic’s win at Falkirk as Murdoch appeared from the Falkirk Stadium tunnel.

What Celtic fans might not have known about the stand-in referee is that Sean Murdoch used to play for Hibs between 2012 and 2014.

Murdoch played in goals for the Easter Road club and faced Celtic just once in his career, but it was not at Hibs.

Celtic beat Hamilton Academicals 4-0 in 2009 and Murdoch was the man between the sticks for that drubbing.

Celtic’s full injury list

Celtic have four players out with a hamstring injury as Kelechi Iheanacho, Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Marcelo Saracchi all look to make a recovery over the coming weeks.

Jota will miss the rest of Celtic’s season as he still recovers from his cruciate ligament injury.

Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is also out for the remainder of the season as the US defender recovers from a long-term Achilles injury.
