Manhattan, IL crash, today: Students on school bus OK in deadly crash on Manhattan-Monee Rd near School House, Scheer

MANHATTAN, Ill. (WLS) — Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a school bus in Manhattan, Illinois on Thursday morning.

The crash happened at about 8:32 a.m. on Manhattan-Monee Road between School House Road and Scheer Road, Illinois State Police said.

Ten Manhattan School District students and a bus driver were heading eastbound when it crashed head-on with a passenger vehicle, ISP said.

Manhattan police said all children and the driver were transported to area hospitals as a precautionary measure.

All parents with children involved in the crash were contacted.

Officials confirmed the driver of the passenger vehicle died at the scene.

Video shows as some children were taken out of the school bus and onto an ambulance at about 9:18 a.m.

All eastbound and westbound lanes are closed as the investigation continued.
