A man is under investigation following a crash in Kensington on Tuesday, January 13, involving a police car. Neighbours reported hearing screams of “my leg, my leg” after a police car crashed with a Sur-ron bike in Kensington on Tuesday (January 13) afternoon.

Merseyside Police were called to Stamford Street in Kensington at around 3.25pm on Tuesday following reports of a crash, involving a suspected stolen Sur-Ron bike and a police car, following a pursuit. In an update today (Thursday, January 15) police said the rider of the bike had been reportedly driving at excess speed and on pavements in the area.

The rider, a 29-year-old man from Wavertree, suffered leg injuries and was taken to hospital for assessment.

He was initially arrested on suspicion of multiple road traffic offences and was de-arrested in order to be taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries, where he remains in a stable condition. He remains under investigation.

Following the incident a police car appeared to have mounted the pavement and crashed with the garden wall of a house. One neighbour told the ECHO on Tuesday how she saw the police car and Sur-ron bike collide.

She said: “I saw it all. You could just see his head; the rest of his body was under the car. It was horrific.

“There was a female police officer trying to pull him from under the car. He was screaming, ‘I can’t feel my leg, I can’t feel my leg’.”

Another neighbour added: “I heard a man shouting ‘my leg, my leg.’ Next thing I heard sirens and then there was a load of police cars outside my house surrounding him.”
