The pace appears to have certainly picked up when it comes to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s banishment from Windsor. The disgraced former Duke of York was forced to give up the lease on his 30-room Royal Lodge mansion back in October when he was dramatically stripped of all of his titles by the King following more revelations about his association with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

In recent days, a removals van has been spotted at Royal Lodge after Andrew was supposedly given a deadline of next weekend to move out by. While at Marsh Farm, the ex-prince’s new home in Sandringham, workmen have been spotted putting up fences, installing CCTV and sprucing up the property.

Andrew’s imminent move comes at a time when his previous life of having HRH status and attending Royal Family events lies in tatters. But despite seemingly being at his lowest ebb, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes this will mean something different for Andrew when compared to ordinary people.

She explained to the Mirror : “I guess when you hit rock bottom, there’s nowhere else to go but up. And, stripped of his status and titles, evicted from his home and exiled from royal events, Andrew must surely be at rock bottom by now. Although, of course, a royal or even ex-royal rock bottom is undoubtedly rather different from the conventional one.”

Home provided

Of course, when Andrew eventually surrendered the lease for Royal Lodge in light of losing all of his titles, he didn’t have to find his own accommodation.

From the outset, it was made clear that when Andrew moves to the Sandringham estate, his older brother the King would privately fund any future accommodation for him. And not only that but he would also make a private provision for him too when it came to income.

Buckingham Palace has not confirmed if Marsh Farm is the property in Norfolk that the ex-prince will be moving to. However, a 6ft wooden fence has been put up around a section of the home, where the hedge is thin.

A light was on in an upstairs room of the main house on Thursday, and people could be seen inside the building. A digger was working in the grounds, and a workman could be seen walking to and from an outbuilding.

Help around the house

Marsh Farm is considerably smaller than Royal Lodge, which had vast rooms, acres of land, and numerous outbuildings – meaning staff had to help out with the running of the property.

It is unknown exactly what sort of help Andrew will have at his new, reduced home. However, according to Jennie, it’s unlikely he will have to start pitching in with chores.

She explained: “Andrew is not going to be sleeping rough or going hungry. He probably won’t even be doing his own washing or cooking. He is going to be looked after by his big brother, given a home in a beautiful part of the UK and will almost certainly have staff to take care of his every need.”

Sky luxury

And it seems when he moves to his rumoured home, one luxury for him has already been taken care of, judging by pictures from earlier this week.

On Wednesday, engineers from Sky VIP Team were seen inspecting the property and scoping out the roof as they installed Sky TV and broadband at the house. It has been reported that Andrew enjoys to scan flight path websites, watching planes take off and land – and a house with WIFI would certainly allow him to do this.

And with no other royal outings or obligations on the cards, Jennie believes it could be the quiet life some would relish. She explained: “All he has to do is to work out how to fill his days. A spot of horse riding? A pheasant shoot? Perhaps a quiet afternoon of video games? The choice will be his.”

Looming problem

But despite the seemingly comfortable life in store for him in Sandringham – one major problem will still loom, according to Jennie, who added: “It may well still be squeaky bum time for Andrew, and the rest of the family, about what might yet be uncovered in the Epstein files. But, in the meantime, the ex-Duke will continue to live a life of considerable privilege.

“I suspect he will divide his time between Sandringham and, in years to come, prolonged visits to the Middle East, where he still has connections and wealthy friends.”

Fergie support

When the big move comes, of course, Andrew will be without his former wife Sarah Ferguson, who for many years has lived with him at Royal Lodge.

Fergie, who is said to have been left “very upset” by the saga is not moving with Andrew to Sandringham, nor is she moving to the Cotswolds to be with their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice.

But even though the pair will be living apart for the first time in many years, Jennie believes they will still be connected. She added: “I think she’ll continue to be part of his life, even if she doesn’t share his new home. They’ve shared so much, good and bad, it’s hard to see how they would ever be truly divorced.”
