Veteran American receiver Austin Mack has signed with the Edmonton Elks following his release from the Montreal Alouettes, per sources.
Mack reunites with franchise quarterback Cody Fajardo in the Alberta capital. He signed a two-year contract through the 2027 CFL season with the Green and Gold.
The 28-year-old pass catcher was scheduled to receive a $45,000 offseason roster bonus from the Als on Sunday, February 1 as part of a contract worth $211,000 in hard money for 2026. He was released on Monday as Montreal chose to go in another direction.
The six-foot-two, 215-pound target ranked third on the Alouettes last season with 48 receptions for 674 yards and two touchdowns. The Ohio State University product was the ninth-highest-paid player at his position in 2025, but was limited to 12 regular-season games due to injury. He remained hindered by a nagging hamstring problem during the playoffs.
The Fort Wayne, Ind. native recorded three receptions for 98 yards in the East Semi-Final and two grabs for 21 yards in the East Final, but did not register a catch in the 112th Grey Cup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
In 2023 while playing with Fajardo, Mack registered 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns with Montreal, earning All-CFL honours. He played a key part in the team’s championship run, producing 13 catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns in the playoffs, including a 104-yard performance in the 110th Grey Cup win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
That breakout season led to an NFL shot with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, though Mack rejoined the Alouettes following his release down south. Through 32 career regular season games in the CFL, Mack has registered 136 receptions for 1,973 yards with six touchdowns.
Mack went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft but signed with the New York Giants shortly thereafter. He played 11 games with the team that season and made seven catches for 91 yards.
New York released Mack in 2021 after being placed on injured reserve. He briefly joined the practice roster with the Tennessee Titans and then signed with the San Francisco 49ers. After attending training camp with the 49ers, he was waived as part of the team’s final cuts. His NFL career earnings total $651,170.
Mack ran a 4.59-second forty-yard dash at the 2020 NFL Combine along with a 31.5-inch vertical jump and nine-foot, nine-inch broad jump. He made 79 catches for 1,050 yards and six touchdowns over the course of his NCAA career with the Buckeyes.
