Indian company Aivion has set up its European headquarters in Central Tech in Liverpool

A second major international company has chosen the city of Liverpool for its first European headquarters. On Thursday, it was announced that Chinese vehicle manufacturing giant, Chery Commercial Vehicle, would be creating its first European hub here in Liverpool.

This week has also seen the arrival of India-founded Artificial Intelligence solutions company Aivion, who are moving into Liverpool’s Central Tech building in the city centre in what will undoubtedly be seen as another crucial vote of confidence for the city.

Founded in India in 2024, Aivion specialises in designing and delivering innovative AI-driven solutions to challenges, particularly in the education sector.

Having established links in Europe and the UK, the successful company is looking to strengthen these significantly with a move into Sciontec’s Central Tech innovation centre, based in Liverpool’s Russell Street.

Reflecting on the location choice, Kofil Ali, Non-Executive Director at Aivion, said: “Liverpool has been making the right noises over the past few years, promoting to the world that it is innovative, creative, and open for business.

“The city region’s strong international perception, forward-thinking landscape, and immense soft-landing support made it a clear choice for us, and will be the ideal area for us to lay down our UK roots.”

The company’s founder and director, Kishor Das, added: “We built Aivion to solve real, everyday challenges faced by educators, and expanding into Liverpool allows us to work much more closely with UK institutions to do exactly that.

“The city’s focus on innovation, talent, and applied AI makes it an ideal base for us as we scale our technology and contribute meaningfully to the local education and innovation ecosystem.”

The international company said other key drivers for choosing Liverpool included similar companies arriving in the city, committing to driving digital transformation in the city as well as Central Tech’s proximity to university talent pools and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s appointment of the UK’s first chief AI officer.

The move completes a hugely positive week for Liverpool’s economic growth agenda, following the Chery Commercial Vehicle (CCV) announcement on Thursday.

CCV will build a new hub for its European operations here in Liverpool, supporting research, engineering, innovation and commercial development in this city.

The major Chinese company’s arrival in Liverpool is expected to create high‑value jobs across engineering, software development, R&D, and operational roles, contributing significantly to the region’s skilled workforce.

Responding to the news, Cllr Liam Robinson, who flew out to China for the announcement, said: “This is really positive news for the city, because Chery Commercial Vehicles, which is a Chinese manufacturer of commercial vehicles has decided to choose Liverpool as its first European headquarters.

“From our perspective, to be recognised as the place they want to bring their whole European headquarters to is fantastic. Effectively this will be the headquarters of all Chery Commercial Vehicle’s European operations so it will include things like engineering, innovation, commercial development for the whole of Europe, based here in Liverpool.

“We are really pleased that we have been able to achieve this. There has been a lot of very detailed work from our team, working with Chery, to pitch the city and demonstrate the strengths we have got.”
