Falling LED screen at Calgary market leads to criminal charges

Two men are facing criminal charges after a massive LED screen collapsed at an outdoor market in downtown Calgary last summer.

Calgary police announced they have charged two Calgarians after a 180‑kilogram LED advertising screen crashed onto a crowd at an outdoor market on June 28, 2025, injuring eight people, including a child.

All of the injured people required hospitalization.

The screen, roughly 2 metres tall and 3.5 metres wide, ,had been set up outside city hall to display marketing material to attendees at the Naija Market Day. Police say it fell just before 3 p.m., sending bystanders scrambling.

Following a months‑long investigation, police concluded the collapse resulted from improper installation and a failure to account for shifting weather and crowd conditions.

Both Steve Adjuya, 48, and Ehis Iduozee, 41, are now charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm. They are scheduled to appear in court in February.
