Toronto police have arrested two men who were wanted in connection with a shooting in downtown Toronto that critically injured a man late Saturday night.

The incident happened in the Entertainment District, near John Street and Adelaide Street West.

Police said they responded to a call for the sound of gunshots in that area on Aug. 2 just after 10:30 p.m.

At the scene, officers found a male who had been shot.

The victim, identified by police as a 36-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two suspects were located and arrested nearby, and a firearm was recovered, they said.

Mitch Rambali, 26, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with several offences, including aggravated assault and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Steve Ganesh, 22, of Toronto, was also arrested and charged with a number of charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and fail to comply with release order.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Both men were scheduled to appear in bail court on Sunday.

Northbound John Street was previously closed between Adelaide Street West and Richmond Street West. However, just before 10 a.m., officials say all roads have since reopened.
