Celtic’s Julian Araujo had a decent weekend.

Not only did he score his first Celtic goal, but he scored it in the 97th minute to complete a classic comeback at Rugby Park.

Martin O’Neill kept Araujo grounded after the game, reminding him that he hadn’t played so well in the first half.

But he more than made up for it in the second, creating Benjamin Nygren’s equaliser with a long throw-in.

It was yet another late show for O’Neill’s men, for whom Araujo has just equalled a Scottish Premiership record.

If it feels like Celtic have had more late winners than usual this season, it’s because they have.

Opta have now confirmed that their total of five winning goals after the 90th minute in the Premiership this season has equalled the highest total on record.

Funnily enough, they have matched an existing record held by Mark Warburton’s Rangers in the 2016-17 season which saw Celtic complete an invincible treble.

The first of their five also came at Rugby Park, when Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up to score the decisive penalty on his Celtic debut.

Iheanacho is one of three Celtic signings to score on their debut this season, alongside Junior Adamu and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Also under Brendan Rodgers was Daizen Maeda’s diving header against Motherwell. The other three of the five have come under O’Neill.

Callum McGregor’s extraordinary hit against St Mirren was one of the best moments of the Irishman’s first interim spell.

But the dramatic wins over Dundee, Livingston and Kilmarnock all coming in the space of eight days really is quite something.

Why have Celtic been able to score so many late goals this season?

Speaking to Sky Sports after his winner, Araujo said: “Yeah, this is what’s Celtic’s about. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to get minutes and continue to play.

“Obviously, it was a long, a long journey, a long start of my season, but I’m grateful for this moment.

“I put myself in the positions to live for moments like this, and I’m grateful for my teammates because they welcome me with open arms, and, you know, to them, we are where we are now.

“I don’t score many goals! So my only thought was just hit it hard, and, uh, I mean, I was only, like, five feet away from the goal.

“So, you know, I just put some power to it, and hopefully, it got past the goalkeeper.”
