Brianna Mohr shared a photo of herself and her dog on Instagram at Marcy Dam in December.
State Police have released additional details about the recent death of a young woman who died while awaiting rescue in the Adirondack High Peaks.
Brianna Mohr, 21 years old from Brick, NJ, was hiking with her dog last Thursday when she slipped off the trail near the summit of Mt. Marcy, New York’s tallest peak.
Mohr called 911 around 3 p.m., though weather conditions prevented Forest Rangers from locating her from a police helicopter.
Mt. Marcy stands at 5,343 ft. in elevation, and the trail to the summit is approximately 7.4 miles long.
Ultimately, rangers located her body near the summit at 9:51 pm. Her dog was uninjured and rescued by rangers.
According to an autopsy performed at Glens Falls Hospital, Mohr died due to hypothermia.
In an online post on Sunday, one of Mohr’s relatives shared additional details from the incident, saying Mohr had experienced disorientation from hypothermia. “All this to say PLEASE be careful and turn around/call the rangers if you feel unsafe for ANY reason,” the post read.
In a statement, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation offered its condolences to Mohr’s family.
