Cardiff City players celebrate during the win over AFC Wimbledon(Image: Huw Evans Media)

Cardiff City strengthened their hold on top spot with a commanding 4-1 win over AFC Wimbledon, maintaining their four-point lead over Lincoln City and moving 13 clear in the race for automatic promotion after Bolton’s’s defeat to Reading.

Joel Colwill’s crisp opener set the tone before Perry Ng and Ollie Tanner struck in quick succession after the break to seize control.

Omari Kellyman’s late finish capped a polished display as the Bluebirds avenged their earlier cup humiliation in emphatic fashion. Here’s how the players rated. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.

Nathan Trott 7

Couldn’t do anything about Matty Stevens’ goal. Made a couple of decent punches and simple-enough saves.

Perry Ng 9 (star man)

Saw the attacking side of him in spades once again, always popping up on the edge of the box and playing intricately in dangerous areas. Buried his header like a striker to put Cardiff back in the ascendancy. Hitting peak form at the right time. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Will Fish 8

Came back into the side and slotted in seamlessly. Pretty solid without being outstanding, although it’s usually a good thing when you don’t notice the centre-backs too much. Throw himself in front of a couple of vicious shots in the second half.

Calum Chambers 7

Generally pretty solid, although had a scary moment early on with a miscued clearance, while his passing wasn’t as crisp as we’ve seen it.

Joel Bagan 7

Produced one marvellous bit of play when he jinked past a defender before feeding Joel Colwill, however that goal was disallowed. Another who was decent enough without setting the world alight.

Ryan Wintle 7

Like Chambers, started with a shaky loss of possession, but to his credit won it back straight away. Shows his importance, coming straight back in after his suspension. Grew into it.

Alex Robertson 8

Fizzed a beautiful corner to Colwill for the first-half goal. Also had his own shot sting Nathan Bishop’s palms when he hit a vicious 20-yarder. Seems to be in a lovely flow state at the moment.

Joel Colwill 8

Hit some real form, Colwill Jr, his third game in a row where he has rightly earned plaudits. Seems to be learning that No.10 role and produced a wonderful first-time for the opener. Almost had a second, too, but he was inches offside after tucking one home nicely.

Ollie Tanner 9

Saw a lot of the ball and had Junior Nkeng really worried with his power and dribbling. His end product wasn’t there in the first half but it was a different story in the second. His pinpoint cross saw Ng head home before he smashed home his own goal superbly from 20 yards out. Now nine goal involvements in seven games, you just can’t keep him out of the action.

Omari Kellyman 7

A relatively quiet one by his standards, couldn’t really impose on Wimbledon’s two big centre-backs and was left frustrated when crosses didn’t find him. But produced the goods when he drifted in from the right to slot a lovely fourth.

Chris Willock 7

Not as active or in the game as Tanner on the other flank. Tidy enough on the ball without really igniting the fuse.

David Turnbull (Robertson 66) 6 – Slotted neatly into midfield and kept the tempo high after coming on.

Rubin Colwill (J. Colwill 66) 6 – Showed some nice touches but still a little ring-rust there.

Cian Ashford (Willock 66) 6 – Injected pace and drew a strong appeal after bursting beyond his man.

Callum Robinson (Tanner 73) 7 – Made an immediate impact with clever movement and the assist for Kellyman’s late goal.

Callum Scanlon (Kellyman 90) N/a – Nice for him to get a debut in a winning cause.
