Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper issued an update on Friday afternoon regarding captain Sidney Crosby after he missed their semifinal win over Team Finland.

After an impressive preliminary round where they went 3-0-0-0 with 20 goals for and just three against, Canada faced off against Czechia in the quarterfinals and despite progressing to the semis thanks to an overtime winner from Mitch Marner, captain Sidney Crosby was forced to leave due to a lower-body injury, but thankfully he avoided anything major and was listed as day-to-day.”Jon Cooper says Sidney Crosby has not been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

After taking to the ice on Friday morning to see if he’d be able to play, Hockey Canada announced about an hour before puck drop that Sidney Crosby will be out against Team Finland and with IIHF rules stating that each nation must have a captain, Connor McDavid was given the ‘C’ today.

“Sidney Crosby will not play in the semifinals. Connor McDavid will wear the ‘C’ today, with Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon serving as alternates.” Hockey Canada said on X.

The Canadians went down 2-0 early in the second period but were able to bounce back, with Shea Theodore of the Vegas Golden Knights tying things up halfway through the third period, while Nathan MacKinnon won the game with one-timer on the powerplay with nearly 30 second remaining in regulation.

After the game, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper was asked about Sidney Crosby and if he’ll be able to play on Sunday and he told reporters there’s a better chance that he’ll be able to suit up for that one than he did for Friday’s semifinal.

“We have 48 hours to determine…he has a better chance of playing that then he did of playing today.” Cooper said.

With Sunday potentially being the final game of Sidney Crosby’s Olympic career, there’s no doubt that the future first ballot Hall of Famer is going to do everything in his power to be able to play in order to get a third gold medal around his neck.

Puck drop for Sunday’s Gold Medal Game is set for 5:10 am PT (2:10 pm local) and can be seen across Canada on CBC, CBC Gem and TSN.
