Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has reacted as he watched his side drop more points in the Scottish Premiership with a 2-1 defeat to Hibs.

Celtic lost to Hibs after a late goal as Martin O’Neill’s side failed to bounce back from their disappointing 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart.

The Celtic manager was unhappy as he took aim at VAR after Auston Trusty’s red card at 1-1 left the Hoops a mountain to climb.

O’Neill told BBC Sportsound, “I thought we were absolutely terrific first half. We have dominated possession and we got a late first half equaliser.

“We certainly deserve that. Deserved to be in front. We missed a couple of great chances to do that, and yeah, so players put heart and soul into the game so I’ve no complaints in that side whatsoever.”

Martin O’Neill says Trusty’s Celtic red card was ‘harsh’

The Celtic boss was clearly unhappy as the Bhoys now fall further behind in the title race

O’Neill continued, “I can only go on what the referee told me. And the referee said that he was first of all, looking at the incident, he was just going to have a word with the two players.

“Then VAR’s intervened to say that it was violent conduct. And so the player gets a red card.

“So if that it, then that’s the rules. I thought that looked pretty harsh, considering that the player was holding on to Trusty.

“Then a couple of minutes later, we had a really good claim for a penalty kick as well, too when Scales had been held in the penalty area, shirt’s been tugged, and it’s not given.”
