Connor McDavid has been named MVP of the men’s ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics Milano Cortina 2026.

The Canadian superstar, who stood in as captain for the injured Sidney Crosby in the Olympic final defeat by Team USA, finished as the leading scoring in Italy, registering 13 points with two goals and 11 assists.

That is a record points haul for an NHL player at the Winter Olympics, surpassing the previous best mark of 11, set by Finland’s Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu.

Silver medallist McDavid was also named Best Forward at Milano Cortina 2026 and was named on the tournament All-Star Team.

Team USA hero Connor Hellebuyck was chosen as Best Goaltender, while his teammate Quinn Hughes was named Best Defender.

McDavid emulates Slovakian Juraj Slafkovský, who was the MVP and scoring leader at Beijing 2022 with seven points, and again makes the All-Star Team for his contribution at Milano Cortina 2026.

The last time NHL players participated in the Winter Olympics, at Sochi 2014, Finland’s Selanne was MPV and Team USA’s Phil Kessel was the scoring leader.
